Global Consensus at Human Rights Council on Saudi Arabia’s Child Cyber Protection Resolution

Saudi Arabia has taken a leading role in global child online safety with a landmark resolution unanimously adopted by the Human Rights Council (HRC). The resolution, rooted in the “Child Protection in Cyberspace” initiative launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was presented by Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila at the HRC’s 59th session in Geneva.

It received broad support, co-sponsored by Kuwait, Algeria, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Vietnam.

The resolution recognizes both the opportunities and risks of the digital world for children and calls for:

  • Stronger national frameworks and international cooperation
  • Sharing best practices and raising awareness
  • Technical assistance tailored to each country’s needs

This move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, reinforcing its commitment to global cybersecurity, child welfare, and international leadership. The Kingdom’s efforts have been widely acknowledged as setting a benchmark for digital safety and international collaboration.
